DETAILED FACTS ABOUT THE POLYTECHNIC, IBADAN YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW ABOUT
1. The Polytechnic, Ibadan was established in 1970 as a successor to the erstwhile Technical College, Ibadan under the provision of a principal Edict cited as The Polytechnic, Ibadan Edict 1970.
2. By the amendment to the principal Edict of the Polytechnic which came into force on 17 March 1987, four satellite Campuses of the Polytechnic were created. They took off during 1981/82 session and were sited at Eruwa, Saki, Iree and Esa-Oke. Each of the campuses have by now turned to independent Polytechnics with the following names:
- IBARAPA POLYTECHNIC
- OKEOGUN POLYTECHNIC
- IREE POLYTECHNIC
- ESA-OKE POLYTECHNIC, respectively. Which means The Polytechnic, Ibadan is a mother institution.
3. The Polytechnic, Ibadan has been operating on faculty system for easier work co-ordination and management. At present, there are five faculties namely: Engineering, Science, Environmental Studies, Financial and Management, Business and Communication Studies. The faculties run National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
4. If you don’t know why the polytechnic, Ibadan students always have morale when they are in the midst of other students in some prestigious institutions, it is because of the article “THE”. The only polytechnic with article “THE”—that has many PHD as lecturers—is the best. Take or leave it.
