{POEM}: On Nights Like This

On nights like this
when the moon is effulgent
and hundreds of stars smile;
Sweet melodious sounds of waters -
Streets filled with emptiness
the cry of a toddler ,
soft and tender-
When hibiscus and bougainvillea blooms,
wishes come to pass.

On nights like this
when moon and stars gloom
and the owl hovers,
wall geckos and cats awake,
crickets buzzing, cats meowing -
Mystic drums, sonorous and
thin voices laughing out loud,
shadows are laid to rest and
dreams for humanity becomes shredded.

On chilly nights like this
when his hairs are stroked,
her succulent bosom, cuddled…
Unfulfilled promises are birthed;
Beneath the thick continental quilt,
body aroused and goose bumped,
love making creeps.

On nights like this,
the python dances …
Brothers in ozubulu, massacred …
Blood spilled like milk in kiriji …
Monkeypox outbreak in otueke …

On nights like this,
when air turns airless,
life turns lifeless,
morality to immorality. …
Good to evil …
Bad to worse …
Rapture comes like a thief at night.
