The Polytechnic, Ibadan swore in newly elected members of the Students Union Government Executive and Legislative arm today, 18th of August, 2017 at the Assembly Hall of the institution. The programme which commenced few minutes after 11 was a joyful event as students and SUG leaders (both incoming and outgoing) rejoiced for the successful completion of a regime and the promising beginning of another administration.
While giving his speech, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Olatunde Olubanjo Fawole, commended the outgoing executive members for having an hitch - free tenure and conducting a peaceful election. The Rector noted that the SUG is not meant to be an alternative to the management but rather a forum that represents the students and joins the management in moving the school forward. He said "I salute the electoral committee as well. Please, note that student leadership is.not an avenue to intimidate other students and student unionism does does not confirm immunity of students, so all laws must be abided with. You should not take laws into your hands in the name of aluta".
As gathered by ExplorenceBlog, He further enjoined the sworn in student union leaders not to allow their academics suffer from the hands of their political activities as academics is their primary reason for being in the school. He also stated that the executives are expected to make landmark projects which will live long even after they leave the institution. He said further that "we will welcome ideas, negotiations, dialogue from the students union as long as you don't pose as an island of knowledge, so always embrace dialogue instead of violence."
While.presenting awards and recommendation letters to the outgoing SUG leaders, he noted that the outgoing students union leaders have exhibited maturity and high level of leadership skills therefore, the management decided to compensate them with the awards and recommendation letter.
While giving his inaugural speech, the new SUG President, Comrade Kuyoro Olumuyiwa Emmanuel requests forthright full support of from everyone in order to have a successful tenure. He further gives a call to everyone to join hands together as no one person can make a forest.
The outgone president, Comrade Edema Peter Oluwadamilola, during his short speech thanked God for the successful tenure he had as well as the management, his HOD, Mrs. Peter Ajibola, his Dean (of Faculty of Business and Communication Studies), Mr. Ipadeola. He therefore wished the new administration a nice regime.
The outgone speaker of the legislative arm, Comrade Olawale, also have his vote of thanks and advises the new SUG leaders not to sideline any faculty in their dealings and they should stand as one in order to achieve great.
Other dignitaries who attended the programme are the school Registrar, Mr. Ayodele Feyintola, the Bursar, Alhaji Rasheed Tiamiya, the Dean of students affairs, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, among others.
