By ADEGOKE, Ayodeji Solomon (nomoloS)
2. READ YOUR TEXTBOOKS ALL OVER AGAIN: it is always good to
re-sharpen your brain and knowledge about what you have known before to
forestall confusion and perceptual deficit (a situation whereby you
forget what you have known before). The essence of revisiting your
textbooks is to enable you have a refreshed and better understanding of
its contents. Just like one cannot know all, one cannot as well remember
all at all times, hence, the need for reviewing, revisiting and
revision.
3. PRACTICE PAST QUESTIONS AND SAMPLE QUESTIONS: Past questions and sample questions are very useful in exams like this because some questions may be repeated and it also tells you the format and nature of questions to expect. Sometimes, when you answer such questions, they put you in the realm of exams and you be like you're doing rehearsals for the upcoming exams. In addition, they allow you to make any mistakes you may make before the exam proper, this is a good way of avoiding unnecessary mistakes during the real exams. You can't afford to make mistakes in your real Post UTME, you know. You can download some UI 2015 post UME sample Questions HERE
4. ASK THOSE WHO HAVE DONE IT BEFORE FOR NECESSARY INFORMATION: Question format, nature of questions, alloted time, number of questions etc, must be asked from experienced and reliable individuals while preparing for exam. Most people writing the Post UME might be doing it for the first time, therefore, they need to ask people who have done it before how the exam looks like and the best method to go about it. However, in doing this, one must be careful with the choice of guardians because some may be misleading and some may eventually end up scaring you more about the exam.
5. DO NOT LOOK OUT FOR LEAKED QUESTIONS: Some people shoot themselves
in the leg by looking out for leaked questions at the detriment of
rigorous study. Most times, leaked questions are not reliable because
once the institution gets to know, they will change the questions
totally, even in dial minutes. Institutions always have plan B
questions, so, do not rely on an unreliable leaked set of questions,
rely on your brain, ability and hardwork, no one can change them or
collect them from you.
6. PRAY BEFORE GOING TO THE EXAM CENTRE: Prayer is the key, no matter how sure or much you have prepared, shell your preparation with prayer. Many atimes, people who are so sure and confident about the answers they have written may be disappointed when they see their scores, they may expect 82% and eventually get 28%. This may be consequent to mistakes in answering questions, physiological problems, psychological issues, technical problems, among others. Therefore, even if you're sure of scoring 150 over 100, still commit everything into the hands of prayer.
7. LEAVE FOR EXAM HALL EARLY: This is necessary because you may not have been to the exam centre before. It is always required of the candidates to go and check out the examination centre before the day of exam in order not to start rushing to look for the venue on the D-Day when others may have started the examination already. Also, leaving for exam hall early gives you the opportunity to calm down and cool your brain before starting to write the exam, the brain can't be cheated, it has to be given the necessary food (rest) when appropriate.
8. CALM DOWN AND DEAL WITH EXAMINATION ANXIETY: I must say that it is normal to have examination anxiety, especially when you're writing such exams for the first time and it is once in a year (i.e., you can't afford to fail, you fail, you wait for a year! Or consider other lesser choices). However, letting the anxiety to overwhelm you is the biggest mistake you can ever make to yourself. It has been proven that everyone, even professionals, tend to be anxious, but the ability to turn the anxiety to strength is what brings out the best performance, hence, anxiety can help you a lot. You can ask final year students of a higher institution, you'll get to know that even with the number of tough and easy exams they've written, they still feel a particular level of anxiety. So, your anxiety is not new. Just calm down, be courageous and turn such anxiety to strength.

prepared and rehearsed for months, the logic behind it is that, the
higher the preparation, the higher the likelihood of having high
performance. Do not make the mistake of preparing for the post UME exams
few day to the D-Day, it may not pay you. Though, some people boast of
performing better when they prepare few days or hours to exams, yet I
can still say that they would have performed best if they had started
the preparation long ago. With the nature of the post UME policy, you
sincerely need to perform at your best because only the best will be
chosen, therefore, prepare at your best to get the best performance.
